MEET OUR PASTOR
The Lord led Rod Walker and his family to Harmony Baptist in
2000. It didn't
take Rod long to hear from the Lord concerning the reason he was brought
to Harmony, as he began receiving a call from God into the
ministry. Encourage by his devoted wife, his children and members of
the congregation and mentored by previous Harmony pastor
Chuck Turner, he answered the call of God. In 2003, Pastor Chuck left
Harmony to pursue a leadership opportunity in the Southern Baptist
Convention. It was then that the congregation at Harmony lovingly
supported and acknowledged God's calling on his life when we elected him
lead pastor. We have been truly blessed to have Pastor
Rod leading and shepherding our church since then.
Pastor Rod was raised in Brooklyn, Michigan by his
parents Ron and Joyce Walker in a strong Christian home. His parents
provided the basis on which the pastor would eventually build his
ministry. He studied the Word of God both at church and at home. This
early Bible instruction led to the development of a deep love of God and
reverent respect for His mighty power and glory, which characterizes
his ministry to this day. Pastor Rod is a devoted son to his parents,
husband to his wife of 24 years Kelley and father to his two children
Matt (age 22) and Beth (age 18).
Do you remember the TV show Growing Pains? In this sitcom we watched a family who laughed and cried together as they went through life's ups and downs. This show reminds me of Harmony. We are going through a period of growing pains!
We desperately need the Lord to guide us as we venture into the future. I ask that you faithfully pray for the Lord to help you across your personal hurdles and pray that He would grow us beyond the walls of this church. I want to encourage each Christian to step out and exercise their faith. Remember that our obedience is always rewarded by the Lord!
Here are some steps you can take to "GROW" in your faith:
1) Increase your prayer time. 2) Increase your Bible/devotion time. 3) Get involved in Sunday School/Bible Study. 4) Serve in the food ministry/clothes closet. 5) Increase your giving. 6) Look for opportunities to "SHINE" for Jesus outside the walls of the church.
I want to challenge you to take a step of faith and "GROW" as a Christian! I believe with all my heart that the Lord desires to prosper you and this church family (Jer. 29:11). This prospering often times requires us to experience the pain of sacrifice. Please join me in seeking the Lord with all our hearts and following Jesus wherever he leads.
We are also looking for devoted prayer warriors, if you are interested in joining our team please email us as well.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every
situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
request to God (Philippians 4:2).
According to the Holy Word
of God prayer is foundational in every aspect of our lives. We all face
trials, temptations, and burdens that can lead to physical, emotional, spiritual, family and financial needs. Our prayer ministry here to lift up your
needs to God through prayer.
